Maple Festival Returns This Weekend:
The 54th Annual Central New York Maple Festival returns to Marathon this weekend, April 18–19, bringing maple treats, local vendors, live entertainment, and family-friendly fun to the whole community! Marathon Central School students will be front and center—running fundraisers, supporting events, and helping welcome visitors throughout the weekend.
From food stands and face painting to the pancake breakfast and Maple Festival Queen Pageant, students of all grade levels are helping bring this beloved tradition to life. Learn more at www.maplefestival.org .

Seeking School Board Candidates:
Petitions are available for a seat on the Marathon Central School Board of Education.
The terms of three Marathon Central School Board of Education members are up for election on May 19, 2026, at the annual vote. The three candidates will serve three-year terms commencing July 1, 2026, and expiring on June 30, 2029.
To be on the ballot, candidates must be qualified to vote in school elections in the Marathon Central School District, must be and have been a resident of the district for at least one year prior to the election, May 19, 2026, and file a petition with 25 signatures of qualified school district voters before 5:00 p.m. April 20, 2026. Petitions are available for you to pick up from the District Office.

Marathon CSD Faculty Face Off for Charity in Basketball Game:
Faculty members from Marathon Central Schools and Whitney Point Central School District took to the court for a good cause during a fundraiser basketball game on March 12.
Held at the Whitney Point High School gymnasium, the event brought together students, families, and community members to cheer on their favorite teachers and staff, all while supporting meaningful causes. The friendly competition was a highlight for both districts, fostering school spirit and community connection.
This year, Marathon CSD selected the Marathon Food Pantry as its beneficiary. Through the success of the event, $900 was raised to support the organization and its efforts to serve local families in need.

Marathon FFA Chapter Celebrates National FFA Week:
The Marathon FFA Chapter welcomed national leadership during its National FFA Week celebrations, Feb. 23-27. The week featured a different spirit day theme, and students dressed up according to the day’s theme, from USA apparel and western wear to FFA blue and gold and flannels.
On Thursday, the Marathon FFA chapter welcomed the New York FFA President, Zoe Valencia, New York FFA Sentinel, Matt Mulligan, and National FFA Western Region Vice President, Jael Cruikshank, along with their staff. Leadership and students toured Ensign Family Maple to learn about maple syrup production and sample several Marathon-made flavors. The group later reconvened at Marathon Jr./Sr. High School for a pancake dinner.

Due to scheduling conflicts on January 17, the Cotillion (Grades 9–12) has been rescheduled to Saturday, March 14, from 6–9 PM at Appleby Elementary.

High School Heroes Triumph in Third Annual Faculty Basketball Showdown:
The High School Heroes defeated the Appleby All-Stars 49-34 in their first Faculty Basketball Showdown. In its third year, the fundraiser raises money for the senior class trip to Walt Disney World, this year for the Class of 2027. Teachers from Marathon High School battle Appleby Elementary teachers for the now-legendary Maple Jug.
The teachers vs. teachers basketball game was born out of a brainstorming session on ways to involve the community in student fundraisers beyond standard bake sales and chocolate orders. In its inaugural game, the event sold over 375 tickets in the first day of sales.

Marathon Honors Veterans During Flag Raising Ceremony:
Marathon Jr./Sr. High School held its annual Veterans Day assembly and flag-raising ceremony to honor all who have served in the armed forces. Twenty-one friends and family members who have served in various branches of the military joined on stage to share their stories.
MCS alumnus Dan Morehouse was the event’s main speaker. The Marine veteran spoke about his time serving in Afghanistan and his continued public service as a police officer. Marathon history teacher Thomas Norris, an active reservist in the US Marine Corps, spoke about the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps.
