A NOVEL Ready Electronic Doorway Library
Appleby Elementary School Library Media Center has been recognized by the NYS Education Commissioner as “NOVEL-Ready”. The New York Online Virtual Electronic Library (NOVEL) is more than just the Internet. NOVEL expands access to bibliographic resources and full-text information that is organized, reliable, up-to-date, and evaluated by expert librarians.
NOVEL benefits all library users by offering reputable an accurate online resources. NOVEL is temporarily funded through a Library Services and Technology Act grant. Permanent, ongoing funding for NOVEL is one component of New Century Libraries.
Advanced Electronic Doorway Library
New York State Education Commissioner Richard Mills has recognized the Appleby Elementary School Library as an “Advanced Electronic Doorway Library” for its use of computers and telecommunications technology to provide electronic library services.
An electronic doorway library uses technology, a full range of library resources and the services of school library media specialists to meet the educational needs for people of all ages, backgrounds, interests and abilities. As an advanced electronic doorway library, Appleby Elementary School Library is going beyond the library’s wall to obtain information and resources and working to provide new ways of assembling, evaluating, and using information.
