Elementary Principal

Mrs. Warnow Welcomes You to Appleby Elementary School

September 2011

It is hard to believe that I am beginning my sixth year as your elementary principal.  The past five years at Appleby have been very rewarding, both professionally and personally.  I am excited to embark on a new school year and all of the challenges that come with it.

This summer brought many great changes to our school.  We are enjoying a renovated lobby, expanded parking, a greenhouse and a new Art room, as well as a new counseling suite.  New windows were installed in the 1986 wing and new doors were installed in the front of the building.  A new digital control system was installed to aid our efforts in using our heat and electricity efficiently.  We were also fortunate to have a generator installed which will allow Appleby to remain in operation when the electricity goes out.  This will allow our school to be used for a community shelter in times of extreme weather.

As we begin the school year I would like to stress the importance of regular attendance for our students.  A good educational foundation is built in elementary school.  Regular attendance at school is a cornerstone of a solid learning foundation which will enable a child to meet the ever increasing challenges of high school and beyond.  Each Appleby staff member takes the education of all of our students very seriously and very personally.  As educators we see the devastating impact poor attendance can have on a child’s academic achievement and their feelings of self-worth.

Appleby continues to be a school in which mutual respect is expected of all of the people in our school – both students and staff.  Our TKN anti-bullying program is a cornerstone of our Appleby school-community.  Our students are asked to consider their words and their actions in the following terms:

·        Are they true?

·        Are they kind?

·        Are they necessary?

If a child is able to answer no to any of the questions above, then they probably should choose their words and actions more carefully.

In the spring of 2006, when I interviewed for this position, I mentioned that I believe that it takes a whole school to educate each child.  This continues to be a firm belief.  I work with an outstanding faculty and support staff.  My teaching staff is dedicated to helping each child succeed in school and work hard to ensure that students receive the help they need in times of struggle. Our support staff at Appleby does an amazing job each day.  Every Appleby staff member is dedicated to providing each child with a solid, well-rounded education.

I welcome parents to stop in or call with questions or concerns.  I believe that by working together, we can provide our children with a great education.

Each morning as I see the smiles of my students and hear their laughter as they start their day, I know, for sure, that I have the best job in the world!
